Friday Feb 2 Update

Our week with Davy and Susan will be done tomorrow. We got up and went to the beaches today. We started out at Spencer Park Beach and hiked back to Mauumae Beach (or something like that). It’s the one that only has 3 parking places for it, so we just parked at the Spencer Park and hiked to it. Tide was really high, so we decided to keep hiking the trail. It was the storybook looking trail. We loved it. We did so well on it, though, we just hiked it back to Spencer Park and had our picnic lunch there. Then we drove to Hapuna Beach and walked it a couple of times and got some sun. Then we came back to Kapaa Park Beach to watch for whales. On the way we saw a bunch of activity out in the ocean, so we parked and hiked out to hope to catch a close up breach. We waited and waited and gave up and went back to the car. Just as we were pulling out of the parking lot, Don hollered, “He DID it!” I looked and there was a huge whale breaching right out where we’d been watching! Davy had been so ready to catch him with his camera, but we gave up too soon and we missed the shot. It was fun to see it, though. We went back to a local shop for Susan to do some last minute shopping and then came home to eat supper and plan for tomorrow. We’re staying home, but Davy and Susan are going to get up early and go to the volcano to see if they can hike it tomorrow. They’ll come back here to clean up before they leave for their late flight tomorrow night. Our friends, Tom and Linda Rose, from Tennessee are coming in late tomorrow night. (Tom and Linda and I graduated together in Franklin County, Tennessee, and we haven’t seen each other since!)

Today’s pictures are from the day before yesterday when we were fighting the Kona winds. We hiked to the lighthouse and could hardly stand up the wind was so hard. The last two pictures are at one of the beaches where we like to watch for whales. You can see the sailboat washed up onto the lava in one picture. The other picture shows the kind of waves that broke that boat loose. The boat is GONE, now. It’s been interesting to watch the boat, not to mention the waves and the whales!

It’s a great Hawaii! God is awesome! I love you!
