Today was another very busy day. Don stayed home and worked while Tom and Linda and I went shopping and snorkeling. I am always amazed when we snorkel. Don has had a couple of bad experiences in the past with snorkeling, so he was happy to stay home and mow while we did it without him. Once he got very seasick and another time he crashed against a bunch of coral and got cuts all over him. I couldn’t resist going in and enjoying the awesome fish up close and personal, though!
Tomorrow is another big day. We’re getting up at dark and heading out to South Point where we will hike 3 miles to the green sand beach and back out again. We might be crazy, but I think we’re just taking advantage of our opportunity to do this with great company.
I finally got the new camera figured out enough to download some pictures. The first one is Tom standing inside a banyan tree up near Akaka Falls yesterday. The next one is Akaka Falls.
My senior year Tom and I used to go exploring caves, so it is a lot like old times this week exploring and having a great time together. Linda was also in our class and it’s so much fun to learn of what has happened to lots of others in our class and to spend time with such a happy couple. Don is wonderful to mix with anyone and feel comfortable. These are really special people; just almost like family. It feels like there has not been 41 years since we saw them.
I am so very proud of this picture! My old camera would not have taken a picture I could use in this circumstance. It was nearly dark, but we could still see to climb out onto the lava. Notice how the ‘NO PARKING’ sign was covered by Lava years ago when this lava flowed through the area and across the road! The best part is the actual lava flow that broke out yesterday while we were there! Don was the first one to see it; what an eagle eye! Notice just over his left shoulder is a light patch in the sky. Just to the right of that patch is a gray cloud that has a couple of ‘fingers’ that drop down and nearly touch the top of the mountain. Right under the second ‘finger’ is the glowing flow. It’s very small. Of course as it got darker we could see it even better. I hope it shows on the blog.
We give thanks for all God’s handiwork and our opportunity to enjoy it so richly and share it with our friends and family. I love you all and thank God for you, too.
