Middle of the breach:

This picture is the second in the 3 that Davy got of this whale breaching. He has a great camera and he was right on the ball with this one!

We had a full day today! We drove to the south side of the island and put the 4wheel drive to the test! We drove out to The Road to the Sea Beach. It was gorgeous, but we don't recommend anyone do it. It took too much time and was a killer ride. It was 6 miles out there and it was VERY rough. Then you go to the second beach which was so unreal; it was way awesome. It was a mix of green and black sand and NOBODY was there. We drove about another half mile and then walked about another half mile because even the jeep couldn't make that terrible road. It's a shame that these beaches are so remote; no wonder nobody was there! We drove on after that to the green sand beach, which was a piece of cake after the other drive. We'd hiked out there before, but it was so nice to have the jeep to drive out there!

After our 4wheeling all day we drove back to Kona and Davy bought our supper at the Kona Inn, so we got home and could just feed the cats, shower and go to bed. Whew! It's been a full day, but so much fun. The hiking was great and we're so grateful for the Jeep or we'd never have gotten to see any of these places. I continue to thank God that I can make these hikes. Who would have thought it. Don, too; he's doing great. Of course Davy and Susan are great hikers!

Davy is a whale magnet; we saw gobs of whales today even at South Point. We even saw breaches.

  1. Wow MaryJo these whales are just amazing! What sweet animals. How free they must feel to roam the ocean and to be able to push their giant bodies out of the water. I am in awe! I can't imagine seeing that in real life. What sweet and interesting creatures. Looks like you are enjoying yourselves! Have some fun for me!

  2. I know how thrilled you are with the whale shots..I know you have tried and tried to get some. Your camera is just not up to the task (much like mine). I'm really proud that you are not doing the normal tours of the island...thats just what I would want to do. Go the places that are NOT crowded...keep it up. Can't wait to see more pictures.

  3. Hi, Sweet Becky!

These whales are so amazing to watch. They seem to go in slow motion and, yet, it happens to quickly to capture most of the time. It's really so awesome to watch them! This is an example of how great and creative our God is. He made these creatures to be able to glide along and maneuver with what seems to be the greatest of ease. I'm so thankful that He made them and gave me the chance to see them. Most of all I'm grateful for yours and my healing! The whales remind me to be humble and grateful.

Thanks so much for keeping in touch. I love and appreciate you.

  4. Dana, it would be so much fun if you could be here with us. Start saving your money and plan to come with us if we ever get another chance. This is so very much fun! You'd love it. Yes, people spend untold dollars doing all the tourist traps and there is so much that is awesome and FREE to see, here. The 4 wheel drive vehicle is an expense that opens up a lot of fun free stuff.

    Love you,

    Mary Jo
