Cousins are the best!

The picture on the blog tonight is Elise, holding Elena and Ethan joining them. Elise and Ethan belong to Gina and Elena belongs to Gretta. This was taken the first night we got to Gina’s and Gretta brought Garrett and Elena for a quick visit and dinner. We were way surprised and it was fun to see the kids play together.

Today has been a day of confusion for me. It seems like everything I did I got confused. I stumbled through the day, but I hate it like this. I was sleepy all day and finally took about a 20 minute nap. That helped. I was so sleepy because I’m taking anti-histamines to keep allergies from making me cough. It’s the lesser of evils. I don’t like coughing, so I have to settle for sleepy. Mix sleepy with chemo fog and it’s not efficient! Oh, well, nothing was critical today.

Tomorrow night we’re playing cards here. I’d better get THAT right! Ha! I’m feeling fine and plugging along. I’m ready for a couple of months in Branson. Well, mentally I’m ready, but I’ve got a lot to do to get ready to go. We moved our leave for Branson date up two days, so we’re leaving a week from today. I’d better get in gear and get ready! I did do a couple of loads of laundry today and didn’t turn any whites pink; that’s a thing I got right! I thank God that I’m able to do anything around here and even have company to play cards! This time last year I had to avoid everyone because my immune system was so low. I really know that I’m blessed.

  1. Hi Jo & Don!!
We know the answer for allergies! Go to Walgreen's and buy a Neti Pot with the sodium solution packets. Use this gadget during allergy season etc. and have freedom from the symptoms and maybe the medicine forever! Lara went to Vanderbilt to the Allergy, Sinus and Asthma Program (ASAP Clinic) and was given one of these. Make sure you get the little blue teapot one. The sodium solution is very mild, and it doesn't hurt when you rinse out your nose and sinus cavities!! Lara suffered terribly with hers and she said it has changed her life. Tom uses his once or twice daily. Cost approximate $13-$14 for the kit, and you can buy sodium packet refills separate when needed. Walmart also has it when in stock.

We are thinking of leaving here 1/7/08 for our Branson adventure!! Can you suggest somewhere near where you are staying that I could call for reservations?!

    Your so excited friend, Linda

  2. Thanks, Linda, for the Neti Pot reminder! I HAVE one of those blue pots hanging from my medicine cabinet, right beside my sink! I used it faithfully last year when I had mucousitis so bad in my nose from the chemo. I knew it was good for sinus problems, but I didn't dream it would work with allergy problems. It might be just what I need and keep me from being so sleepy or coughing! I went and used it as soon as I read your post this morning. So far I'm not coughing or sleepy! Woohoo! Thanks so much for sharing!

If you get near to us, stay with us! We have plenty of room and nobody else is in your room.

    Love you,

    Jo

  3. Hi Jo,
I have another answer for the coughing problem. I heard this on the radio. Remember how our mom's rubbed Vicks on our throat or chest? Well, how about rubbing it on the bottom of your feet really well, then wearing heavy white socks. According to the radio, shortly after going to bed, the throat begins to feel smooth and takes away the coughing need. Now I have not tried it, but if I do my usual thing come Jan or so, I am going to try it. That hacking cough is so annoying. Soungs like you are enjoying grandchildren. Such a joy.
I've been to St. Paul, MN 11/21 for Rachel's wedding. Stan and I drove. 16 hours each way. Too old for that. Then home for Thanksgiving, but only Stan and Eva from that family. We had a great time, and I was able to get it all cooked.

Bob had an accident this a.m. about 6:30. Ran into the back of a trash collector. Their lights weren't working properly plus it was rainy and very dark. They took him to Summit, but on to the Trauma unit at Vandy. A concusion on the back of his head, broken ribs, both of the above had inner bleeding, but apparently stopped as of now. His knee is hurting badly. They seem to think some of the damage was due to the air bag. There was a penetration between the nose and eye (his glasses were broken). He was at himself from the beginning as he told the first ones on the scene to call Ann. It appears he is going to be okay, but will be in the trauma unit for about four days. It is suppose to be ice on the roads tonight and the folks in the trauma unit told Ann she should not come back in as there was no place for her to rest and she could not help any way. Diddy took care of Bob's vehicle, then went down to see how Ann was. In the meantime, Donna (Jere's wife) went to Vandy. We are just glad he is as well as he is. They said his vehicle went under the trash truck; that could have killed him! No more news..... oh yes, last Friday 12/12 Donna and Jere hosted the siblings at mother's house. Donna had somewhat talked Ann into it, by telling her, she (Donna) would take care of everything. Was so nice and Bob was so pleased to finally have his family there.

Take care and I'll keep in touch via email likely. I just wanted to tell you about the Vicks remedy and hope it works. Love to all.

  4. Evelyn, it's so good to hear from you, but I'm sure sorry to hear about Bob's accident! It's wonderful that he wasn't hurt any more badly than he was!

I'm so glad to hear about the gathering at Aunt Lucy's house; I know that was a grand time.

Thanks for the Vicks remedy, too. I've had several recommend that and some who've done it and says it works! I'm doing great with the neti pot, but I'll keep the Vicks handy. I remember how Nolie loved Vicks! Our daughter Gretta calls it the love rub. (She got that from their ads when she was little.)

    Love you,

    Mary Jo
