No pictures; well one!
I couldn't load any pictures to the blog tonight because of some technical issue. It has something to do with my quota of pictures; this is really Tricia's blog, so I may have to move or something. Anyway, I'll talk to her about it tomorrow and we'll come up with an answer. I have cool pictures of the windmill weeds, but no space to load them. We worked hard on them and got free to get in and out our back doors.
[[Okay. I went back and deleted some extra pictures I had previously loaded onto the blog and never used, so that gave me some space. That'll get us by until I can figure out what to do. I'll let you know if we need to change addresses or what. This picture is of me standing in the middle of our big pile of weeds by the back door. If you have time, click on the picture so you can see it big and you'll see how small each individual weed is. These buggers are hard to gather!]]]
It was pretty windy today, but Don even walked with me. I was so ready for a good bath after tackling the weeds and walking, plus all the other exercises. It feels good to have it all done even if I know I’ve got to do it all over again tomorrow.
I so thank God that I can get out there and help. I was able to help clear them last year, but I wasn’t as good at helping last year as I was today. You may remember the pictures from last year. We don’t get these weeds every year. It depends on what the farmers plant. This is our third year to be covered with them. Don thinks it’s like an oil spill and the farmers should be responsible for cleaning them up for us. He has such a sense of humor!

Sorry about the pics. I think you should be able to upload some now.
ReplyDelete- me
Oh! I got one on, but we've got to figure out what to do. I'll call you tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Mom
I have never seen anything like this before. This is so crazy! It looks so funny. I know it must not be very funny cleaning them up. I never knew such a think existed. haha
ReplyDeleteLove,
Wendy's Becky
Oh my gosh, Jo! What do ya'll do with all that? They take up so much space! So much worse than leaves. Are they prickly? You look great. Love you lots, Linda
ReplyDeleteHi, Becky! I hope your farmers never plant whatever causes this weed! It's a MESS! I'm grateful to have the energy to be able to help with it this year and to have lived to see it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for writing. I hope you are doing great and feel as good as I do.
Love,
Wendy's Jo
Thanks, Linda! I feel great! Those weeds aren't prickly, thankfully. However, they are a little itchy; no worse than leaves only harder to gather than leaves because they fly away when you grab them! We just grab an arm full and wind them around as much as possible and stuff them into a Wal-Mart bag. A bag will hold about 5 arm fulls of them. Then we tie the bags together and leave them out in the alley for the bag guys. It takes a long time, but I'm so glad to get to do it. Dead people can't do it, you know. Ha! Every bit of life is a joy and I've learned to love it all. I was always easy to entertain, but I love even the windmill weeds, now!
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Jo
Jo, how is this connected to what the farmers plant? you know I'm a curious person and need details. Are these the same as tumbleweeds in the western states? I can't imagine gathering the stupid things up...must be awful. dana
ReplyDeleteHi, curious Dana! I don't know exactly how they are connected to what the farmers plant, but I know we don't always have them. When the farmers plant wheat or cotton in the fields north of our house we don't have these weeds. But, they have cattle out there now, and we have them. Maybe when they have cotton and wheat they keep the weeds down to protect the crops? I don't know, but maybe I can find out for you; I'll ask our friend, David tomorrow. He worked with farmers for years at Hobart Seed and he knows just about everything, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThey are NOT the same as tumbleweed. Tumbleweeds are much bigger, almost like bushes. They'd be a lot easier to gather. These weeds are about the size of my hand only they are so wispy that it's hard to pick them up and get a handle on them. They're a mess, but it gives us something to gripe about that isn't nearly as serious as cancer and we don't have to take terrible measures like chemo. We just have to get out there and get them and it's really kind of fun. A little like raking leaves; kind of like eating cotton candy is like eating a hot dog . . . similar but very different.
Now, don't ask me any questions about cotton candy or hot dogs because I don't do either and don't know any answers. Ha!
Love you,
Mary Jo
